Religions and Conspiracy Theories as the Authoritarian “Other” of Democracy?

چکیده
This article theorises and conceptualises the ambivalent role of religions conspiracy theories in modern democracies. Based on a concise comparison both phenomena, it elaborates similar risks functions for political community without neglecting fact that, under secular conditions, spread narratives might outweigh those religious messages long run. That observation seems particularly relevant contemporary governance science, as tendency towards social anomie sense Durkheim can be deduced from democratic theory, which significantly increases democracy’s need compensatory moral cognitive authorities.
